The attack on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Navy in Sevastopol was an act of sabotage. The attack was carried out from the territory of the Crimean peninsula, a member of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, Crimea Senator Sergey Tsekov said, lenta.ru reports. The official blamed Ukraine for the attack and assured that Russia would not leave the act unanswered.
"This can be regarded as an act of sabotage which was committed from the Crimea. It is easy to make such drones these days, even terrorists can make them. The drone was controlled from a place not far from Sevastopol," Sergey Tsekov said.
According to the politician, the action was organized by intelligence structures and the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
"The attack was conducted to disrupt festive events, but the goals were not achieved. They are trying to breathe some additional strength into the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to raise their morale. This is not going to last long. They will not intimidate the Crimeans, nor will they be able to stop the military operation,” the senator added.
"To all appearacne, they will get a very serious response to this provocation. Our Defence Ministry will deal with this. I don't think those measures will be diplomatic — it will be a military response and some time later we will find out which one exactly.
On July 31, Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev said on his Telegram channel that the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet were attacked.
"Early this morning, Ukronazis decided to ruin the Navy Day for us. An unidentified object flew into the courtyard of the Fleet Headquarters of the Fleet. According to preliminary data, it was a drone,” he wrote.
Six people were injured as a result of the incident, no one was killed, he added.
For security reasons, all festive events dedicated to the Navy Day were canceled. The local authorities decided not to reschedule them for another day. The "yellow" (medium) level of terrorist threat was implemented in the city.
Earlier, Crimea Senator Olga Kovitidi also said that the attack was conducted from the territory of the city of Sevastopol. Moscow regarded the incident as a terrorist attack, she added.
