"Russia's Amber Gold Exhibition" in Kremlin

Monday saw the opening of the exhibition titled "Russia's Amber Gold" in the Moscow Kremlin's Armoury.

The exhibition displays the most historically significant articles made of amber found in the Kaliningrad region. Over 90 per cent of the world's amber reserves are concentrated in the Kaliningrad region. The exposition contains collections of the Moscow Kremlin museums, the Hermitage and three Kaliningrad museums.

"The exhibition will lay another bridge between the Kaliningrad region and the rest of Russia," the Kaliningrad Region Governor Vladimir Yegorov said at the opening ceremony. "The exhibition displays "only a small part of amber articles kept in the museums, but they are the most highly artistic", he said.

The amber articles presented at the exhibition were made in the 17th-21st centuries, Vladimir Yegorov pointed out. "This fact proves that continuity in this craft is preserved and today's amber engravers are as skilful as their predecessors," he pointed out.

The exhibition, scheduled to last till June 1st, is one of the first arrangements held as part of the programme "From Russia to Russia" patronised by the presidential administration. The programme is aimed at strengthening and developing business, cultural and humanitarian ties between the Kaliningrad region and Russia's "mainland". The programme will help the regional administration increase efforts at developing the region and resolve problems faced by Russia's westernmost territory in the Baltic.
