Archaeological Discovery Proves Georgia accepted Christianity in 4th Century

The discovery proves information reported by numerous sources saying that Georgia accepted Christianity in the 4th century
In the city of Mtskheta, 20 kilometers from Tbilisi (Georgia), archaeologists found ruins of a church built in the middle of the 4th century by Tsar Mirian. Chief of the Georgia Academy of Sciences Archaeological Commission, Academician Andria Apakidze and head of the archaeological dig in Mtskheta, Professor Guram Kipiani informed ITAR-TASS of the finding Monday.

The archaeologists say that the ruins were discovered during restoration works in the Transfiguration Church on the territory of a nunnery within the precincts of the city. They believe that graves of Tsar Mirian who was the first Georgian tsar to adopt Christianity and Tsarina Nana may be somewhere inside of the church; however, the burial places have not been found yet.

The discovery proves information reported by numerous written sources saying that Georgia was baptized in the 4th century (it is believed that Christianity was adopted as an established religion there in 337).
