Aslambek Aslakhanov Will Not Run for Chechen Presidency? - 25 March, 2003 - News

According to Aslambek Aslakhanov, a State Duma deputy from Chechnya, he is not going to run for Chechen presidency.

"I cannot be nominated for presidency because I have no means and no team of my own," he told journalists on Tuesday.

He said however that there might be changes in the political situation and that "nothing was impossible." He added that being the president of the Chechen Republic was a very responsible and a very difficult job.

Enumerating the potential candidates, he named Malik Saidullayev, Husein Dzhabrailov, Salambek Maigov, Abdulla Bugayev and General Gennady Troshev, who used to command the troops of the Caucasian Military District.
