Heat supply systems failure in 19 Russian cities and towns have left 25,140 people without heating in strong frosts, the Russian Emergency Ministry's information department informed RIA Novosti on Thursday.
The majority of them (23,241 people) live in the northwestern region. 157 apartment blocks in 8 towns have been left without heating in Karelia, Komi, the Leningrad and Novgorod regions.
There is also breakdown in the heat supply systems in the Far East, the Volga-Ural and central regions, the ministry reported. Seventy-two residential buildings with 797 residents are left without heating in 5 towns of Yakutia, Kamchatka, Sakhalin and the Koryak autonomous area. In the Chelyabinsk, Kirov, Samara region and the Yamal-Nenets autonomous area, 946 residents of 45 apartment blocks in 5 towns do not have heating. 456 people in 46 houses are freezing in the Ivanovo and Vladimir regions.
