The New Era Party, led by Einars Repse, formerly governor of the central bank, won Sunday’s election with 26 seats in the 100-seat Parliament.
Just behind, with 25 seats, was the Human Rights Party, protecting the interests of the country’s minority Russian-speaking community, while in third place is the People’s Party, with 21 seats, led by former Prime Minister Andris Skele.
The current Prime Minister, Andris Berzins, saw his Latvian Model centre political formation flounder.
The result of the Human Rights Party exceeded expectations. A government is currently being formed.
