Nizhny Novgorod to raise wages for public employees

Nizhny Novgorod Governor Valery Shantsev at a meeting of the Regional Legislative Assembly introduced his initiative to increase the budget expenditure to raise wages for certain categories of public sector employees. He talked about four billion rubles, three of which will be distributed among state employees.

The initiative to amend the law "On the regional budget for 2013" was unanimously supported by the deputies of Legislative Assembly and adopted in two readings.

As noted by the governor of Nizhny Novgorod Region Valery Shantsev, in 2012 there was a budget surplus of one and a half billion rubles. Municipalities had a 2.5 billion rubles budget surplus. Some of the money was saved on auctions and tenders. In addition, revenue from the federal government is expected.

"Since 2005, the regional budget was increased four-fold, which means that we have an opportunity to raise the salaries of state employees. Over the past seven years the income of doctors and teachers quadrupled. Currently teachers' salaries have reached the average for the economy, and doctors' salaries exceeded it by a third. We are not going to stop here," said Shantsev.

Nizhny Novgorod state employees will see gradual increase in their wages up to 2018.
