The rank of Hero of Ukraine has been posthumously conferred on Valery Lobanovsky, the trainer of Kiev Dinamo football team, who died one of these days. The edict was signed by Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma, Obozrevatel reports, referring to the President Administration’s Information and Public Relations Office. The rank of Hero of Ukraine was conferred to Lobanovsky for his services before Ukraine as for development of football and elevation of the native sport’s prestige, as well as for his many-year trainer work. The day before yesterday, the coffin with Lobanovsky’s body was transported from the city of Zaporozhye to Kiev, while today, May 16, the farewell ceremony will take place in football field of Dinamo stadium. Afterwards, the coffin will be transported to Baikov cemetery to be buried. To be reminded, that Valery Lobanovsky was hospitalized May 7, after the match between Zaporozhye Mettalurg team and Kiev Dinamo team, with diagnosis “acute abnormality of circulation of the blood in the brain, against the background of hypertensive crisis.” May 13, at 20:35 (Kiev time), Valery Lobanovsky died after the operation, without coming to his senses. According to Ukrainian information agencies, Federation of Ukrainian Football has not considered yet any candidacy to the post of main trainer of Dinamo (Kiev) Football Club.
