Moscow Likes U.S. Decision to Resume Work on International Thermonuclear Reactor Project

Moscow has received with satisfaction the decision of the United States to resume its participation in the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor project.

It is "a major direction of international technology cooperation" designed to give mankind an access to a safe and renewable source of energy, said the official spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko on Friday.

Washington's decision to rejoin the joint Russian-Canadian-Japanese-European Union project was the other day announced by American Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham. The United States suspended participation three years ago.

In the opinion of Yakovenko, the project participants get a real opportunity to "reach new lines in the sphere of high technologies". This project "is a good example of Russian-American scientific-technical interaction", says the spokesman of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
