Wolves Terrorize Northern Kyrgyzstan

A pack of wolves that turned up in Northern Kyrgyzstan has struck horror across the republic's Tyupsky district by slaughtering 128 sheep all in one night. According to the press service of the Kyrgyz emergencies ministry, the attack on the sheep -- which took place high in the mountains on the night of November 4 -- rates as the gravest pasture emergency in years. District authorities have set up several hunting detachments to track down the wolves. The emergencies ministry links the country's increasing number of wolves in the recent years to the fact that local shepherds are not allowed to carry weapons while on duty.
