Yesterday, in the city of Nizhny Novgorod, a group of citizens declared its intention to create “Russian Committee for Proposing Mikhail Kasyanov for RF President.” Some public representatives decided to address to the Prime Minister and to ask him to consider the question about his participation in the presidential election. The sitting of the initiative group was announced like an action with participation of 1,119 people from 57 regions. While really, 30 or 40 people came to a small room in Nizhny Novgorod Centre of Esthetical Education. Though, this fact did not hindered Ivanovo Chemical Engineering Institute senior lecturer, Nikolay Zheleznyak from addressing to “1,119 like-minded people who are concerned with the fate of the country.”

According to the organizers, the initiative group is presented, among others, by “qualified lawyers and competent people.” As a result of some research, the initiative group chose four real candidates for president: Anatoly Chubais (chairman of Russian Stock Company Rossiya) and oligarchs, Anatoly Kvashnin (head of Russian General Staff) and military officials, Vladimir Putin and his St Petersburg team, Mikahil Kasyanov and intellectuals. “Of all above-mentioned,” - Zheleznyak said, - “we suddenly discovered the candidacy of Mikhail Kasyanov.”The “discovery” himself, Zheleznyak confesses, knows about it nothing. This is a surprise.

High officials kept silence, while Alexei Volin, the government staff deputy chief, had to take responsibility for everything. Which is curious, is that Alexei Volin was appointed for this post at the Kremlin urgent request, though within two years of being Prime Minister, Mikhail Kasyanov became member of his team. So, Alexei Volin said yesterday: “Proposing Mikahil Kasyanov for Russian President is either misinformation, or provocation to discredit the head of the government.” “The organizers of the action seem to use old recipes, which were used 6 years ago,” – Volin stressed. While answering the questions of journalists, whether this action could spoil relations between the President and the Prime-Minister, Stepashin stressed that “knowing Vladimir Putin and his relationship to Kasyanov, who was supported and appointed by the President, I don’t think this step could cause some troubles.” “But, if we had had another president, he could have reacted to this,” – Stepashin noticed.

The head of the Calculating Chamber supposes the proposal of the Nizhny Novgorod initiative group is “a stupid and straightforward action aimed for embroiling Vladimir Putin with Kasyanov.” According to Stepashin, the question is about using “dirty technologies.”
