Man charged in London bombing attempt says he didn't want to injure anyone

One of the men accused of attempting to set off explosions on London’s transport network claims that he did not mean to kill anyone. His main purpose was to make much noise to protest the War in Iraq.

Yassin Omar, 26, said he had no intention of killing himself when he donated a device in his backpack on July 21, 2005.

"I intended the detonator to go off and only to make a popping noise," Omar testified.

"It happened exactly as I expected. I thought (the device) would just make a noise and the only thing that could happen was that the rucksack might split."

Omar, Hussain Osman, 28, Muktar Said Ibrahim, 29, Ramzi Mohammed, 25, Adel Yahya, 24, and Manfo Kwaku Asiedu, 34, are charged with conspiring to set off explosions just two weeks after four bombers killed themselves and 52 other people in London.

Four devices used in the July 21 attacks failed to explode fully, and no one was injured.

Omar, a native of Somalia, said he only intended to make a protest against the war and it "never crossed my mind" that anyone might be killed or injured.
