The Osaka District Court awarded a total of US$2.25 million to nine patients, Kyodo News agency reported.

Four won compensation from the manufacturer, Mitsubishi Pharma Corp., and five won compensation from the government and the manufacturer, Kyodo reported.

The patients contracted the disease while using defective blood-clotting medicines, mostly in the 1980s, the AP reports.
