A South Korean bystander was shot in the neck Thursday during gunbattles in East Timor's capital and is under medical treatment, but the injury is not life-threatening, Yonhap news agency said.

Kim Bum-ki was shot when he passed the scene of one of the gunbattles raging in Dili between the army and rebellious ex-soldiers. He was rushed to a hospital where he was to undergo an operation, Yonhap said, quoting a South Korean man living in Dili.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry said it was trying to confirm the report, reports the AP.
