A mayoral candidate and dozens of his supporters burst into a Mexican radio station and beat up a journalist during a live broadcast to punish him for an unfavorable report, according to an international watchdog group, which condemned the aggression Thursday.
The attack took place in the central state of Hidalgo after Jorge Zamacona Ramirez broadcast details of documents "that were compromising" for the candidate's family, Zamacona told Reporters Without Borders, which reported the incident in a news release.
The France-based organization issued a statement on Tuesday asserting that Mexico in 2005 had become Latin America's most dangerous country in which to work as a journalist.
Of the numerous attacks against journalists this year, most have been linked with revenge from drug trafficking or organized crime groups, AP reported. V.A.
