Lebanese police have arrested at least ten people allegedly part of a ring that smuggled weapons to Iraq over recent months.
The gang stole 75 cars which were used to transport the weapons across the border through Syria and into Iraq. The suspects, who have not been identified but are believed to be Lebanese nationals, have been charged with theft, contraband and the illegal possession of arms, according to the Lebanese daily an.Nahar reported.
The journey to smuggle weapons to Iraq often began in Beirut, from where the cars travelled through the eastern Bekaa valley towards the town of Majdal Anjar, the AKI reports.
