Bush claims Iran has ties with Al'Quaeda

The United States Government is still investigating whether Iran had ties with Al'Quaeda considering the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Earlier, CIA chief John McLaughlin has said Tehran had no direct link to the attacks but some of the hijackers may have travelled through Iran.

Iran officials have answered these claims, saying that there is nothing impossible in that 4 or 5 people could have penetrated Iranian border, especially considering its length. They have also added that such things are pretty common on the U.S.-Mexican border.

According to the Voice of America, President Bush also said, that it needs to be investigated what role, if any, Iran played in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. "We will continue to look to see if the Iranians were involved," he said. "I have long expressed my concerns about Iran. After all it's a totalitarian society where free people are not allowed to exercise their rights."

Focus has shifted to possible Iranian links because the 9/11 commission report due out this week is expected to link Al Qaeda closer to Iran than Iraq.
