EU doubles - to Euro 30 million - its grant to Georgia

The European Union is granting Georgia euro 30 million, not the previously announced 15 million. The change came after Georgia President Mikhail Saakashvili met in Brussels late Tuesday with Xavier Solana, the European Union's high commissioner, according to information from Georgia's State Chancellery.

In addition to spending on transportation infrastructure and its prison system, the money will go to purchase grain and for basic economic projects. The State Chancellery said Solana had expressed gratification at the successes achieved by the new Tbilisi authorities in the struggle against corruption.
