Council of Europe will help Russia to restore ancient cities

The Council of Europe will help Russia to restore its most ancient cities. As a Rosbalt correspondent reports, this was announced on June 15 by Jose Maria Ballester, head of the council's cultural heritage department. He said the Renaissance of Rostov was the first joint project between Russia and the Council of Europe to restore ancient Russian cities. He said the best European methods of restoration had been applied in Rostov. The council is hoping that this experience will help to restore other ancient Russian cities. The project Renaissance of Rostov began in 1997 and specialists from Canada and France took part in this project.

Russia has been an active participant in the joint Russia-Council of Europe programme Days of European cultural heritage since 1997.
