Participants at the 24th conference of European justice minsters, which is currently being held in Moscow, have called on member nations of the Council of Europe to adopt urgent measures to combat international terrorism. On Friday, the ministers adopted a resolution with an appeal to European states to join without delay international agreements, in particular, the United Nations Convention on the Suppression of the Financing of Terrorism from December 1999. Those attending on the conference have also proposed that the European Convention on the suppression of terrorism and domestic legislation be reconsidered so that perpetrators can be brought to justice in the shortest possible time. A separate point in the resolution calls for terrorists to be stripped of any financial resources allowing them to carry out terrorist attacks. Amendments should be made to legislation if necessary. Apart from the resolution on combating international terrorism, the conference also adopted a resolution on the use of long prison sentences and general approaches to reaching effective judicial rulings.
