Russian president Vladimir Putin has supported the proposal of his Georgian counterpart on setting up a bilateral commission to probe into the incident which took place in the Pankisi Gorge. The Georgian side alleges that Russian aircraft delivered air strikes at peaceful Georgian villages situated in the Pankisi Gorge. Speaking at a press conference, the Russian president expressed doubts that the bombing had taken place. We are talking about bombing peaceful villages, but at the same time no victims are reported--then what bombing could that be, continued the Russian head of state. Putin said that according to the Russian sources, it had been a mere clash between different militant groups.
