Observers from Commonwealth of Independent States member-countries will be present at elections to the Ukrainian parliament to be held in March of 2002, CIS executive secretary Yuri Yarov, chairman of the executive committee, said in a RIA Novosti interview. According to him, this was decided by the CIS Council of Heads of State on November 30 in Moscow, on the suggestion of Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma. After recalling that monitors from commonwealth countries were present at the election of a president in Byelorussia, Yarov said work will be continued with the CIS inter-parliamentary assembly to draw up a convention on standards of democratic elections.
