Bulgaria Reveres Memory of Russians Killed in War with Turkey in Late 19th Century

On Friday Sofia hosted a ceremony of wreath laying to the monument to Russian doctors killed in the Russian-Turkish war in 1877-1878. Flowers and wreaths to the monument were also laid on behalf of Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov and Sofia's mayor Stefan Sofiyansky.

Clergymen from the Russian and Bulgarian Orthodox churches served for the dead doctors, medical assistants, orderlies and nurses, who had been in the Russian military units.

This time the annual ceremony was marked by the 125th anniversary of Russia's liberating Bulgaria from the Turkish yoke. The jubilee will be celebrated on March 3rd.
