Macedonian authorities intend to invite Russian architects to the country in the near future. The architects will be charged with changing the appearance of Skopje and a number of other towns. This was revealed to Rosbalt's correspondent in the Macedonian capital's Central Architectural Bureau.
According to official information, in 2004 the Skopje Mayor's office intends to carry out a programme called 'A New Image for the Capital', which will alter the architectural appearance of a number of buildings in the city centre. Macedonian experts believe that many buildings in Skopje 'have decayed beyond repair' and require fundamental reconstruction. Belgrade's city authorities have already revealed their intention to use Russian experts to rebuild the city after its bombing by NATO in 1999.
