Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, intends to discuss prospects for bilateral US-Kirghiz military cooperation with President Askar Akayev of Kirghizia during his Bishkek visit, which began today. This was disclosed by the press center of the US Embassy in Kirghizia.
Gen. Myers and President Akayev are to exchange their opinions on the Central Asian situation, as well as the pace of the counter-terrorist operation now being conducted by the United States and its allies in Afghanistan.
Washington praised the actions of Kirghiz authorities, which aim to support the anti-terrorist coalition's forces. Among other things, Kirghizia allotted the territory of its Manas international airport for the coalition's air-force base.
Gen. Myers would also be expected to visit the afore-said coalition air-force base in Manas, acquainting himself with servicemen's living conditions.
Gen. Myers is to spend two days in Kirghizia.
