Igor Ivanov: Practical actions by Georgian government contrast with its statements on counter-terrorism

The recent events on the Russian-Georgian border have shown that practical actions by the Georgian government contrast with its statements on counter-terrorism, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov told US Secretary of State Colin Powell over the telephone on Friday.

Ivanov and Powell discussed Russian-US counter-terrorist cooperation, in particular, the situation at the Chechen sector of the Russian-Georgian border.

Moscow approves of US President George Bush's decision on further support for liquidation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons in Russia, the Russian Foreign Minister said.

The ministers agreed to continue efforts on the Palestinian-Israeli settlement and pointed to the importance of recent Washington meetings with the Palestinian representatives.

They also discussed some other issues of the Russian-US bilateral and international agenda.
