Russia, China preserve common ecological system of trans-border reserves

Russian and Chinese scientists elaborated a joint plan on the preservation of a common ecological system of trans-border natural reserves - Bolshe-Khekhtsirsky reserve (Russia) and the Three Rivers (China), situated on the banks of the Amur river on both sides of the border.

The Chinese side is to grant a status of a specially preserved territory to a recently created ecological corridor between the Bolshe-Khekhtsirsky and Three Rivers natural reserves, Marina Chesalina, the head of the press service of the Russian Natural Resources Ministry's Far-Eastern department, said on Wednesday.

This is a corridor for permanent migrations of wild animals and birds from Russia to China and backwards.

Two lakes in Russian territory, where lotus has preserved, will be proclaimed monuments of nature.

In addition, in 2002, when the first snow falls, Russian and Chinese scientists will jointly calculate tracks of wild animals on the Russian bank, and will make an inventory of rare plants on the Chinese bank in 2003.
