Raw material for producing explosives confiscated at Russian-Belarussian border

Russian frontier-guards, jointly with customs officers, have prevented an attempt to bring a big consignment of red phosphorus to Russia through the Russian-Belarussian border.

A RIA Novosti correspondent was told in the press centre of the Russian Federal Frontier Service that a citizen of Belarus tried to bring to Russia about 18 tons of red phosphorus to a value of some 40,000 dollars.

The cargo has been confiscated and handed over to the customs bodies. The smuggler has been detained, and a criminal case has been launched against him.

Red phosphorus can be used for producing explosives.
