Exposition devoted to Russian emigration opens in Argentine

The Jorge Luis Borges hall of the Argentinian National Library is hosting an exhibition of books and publications dedicated to Russian emigration of several waves.

The exposition features 100-odd books, journals and newspapers mostly in Russian. Some of them were collected by emigrants, others were brought from Moscow and a part is presented by the library of the Russian House--name of the Roszarubezhtsentr office in Buenos Aires.

According to Igor Andrushkevich, a famous Argentinian historian and journalist of Russian descent, who made a report at the opening of the exhibition, the number of immigrants from the Soviet Russia in Latin America made 2 to 3 thousand people, with a majority of them settling in Argentina.

Among them were 8 White Army Generals and 10 page-boys of emperors, a lot of writers, scientists, engineers and figures of culture. They established several publishing houses in Argentina and published books, newspapers, weeklies and journals.
