Ukrainian Orthodox believers hold procession against war in Donbass

Hundreds of people in the Donbass take part in a large religious procession, praying for peace in Ukraine.

"This is an anti-war procession, a procession with a prayer for Ukraine, for peace, for the bloodshed to end. This act pushes us to remember and find courage to stop this madness that still continues in the east of Ukraine. This a peaceful event," Vasily Anisimov, a spokesman for the Metropolitan of Kiev and All Ukraine Onuphrius (Berezovsky) told Pravda.Ru.

It is expected that certain political forces may obstruct the religious procession in the Donbass.

"It is not only the Church, but also the people, who need the procession. Everyone is fed up with this war and the economic decline that it has caused - all these terrible tariffs that they ascribe to the war. . This war is the source of all our trouble," he added.

"Most importantly, the first paragraph of the Minsk Accord states that the Donbass is a part of Ukraine. If we want to live in peace, we must do everything for this. Ukrainian Orthodox believers have always stood for the unity of the country. It is peace, agreement, understanding and forgiveness that can take us to unity, rather than threats, violence and confrontation," Vasily Anisimov said in an interview with Pravda.Ru.
