Assad pulls out wedge between Russia and Syria

Bashar al-Assad gave an interview to the Russian journalists and set the record straight. The Syrian President also shared his view on the reasons and consequences of the Syrian crisis.

Syria is in the centre of war against terrorism, which is being fueled from the outside. In the country itself there are dozens of various groups and opposition forces which are deadly feud with each other and the official power.

Why was this statement given just now? Has he felt reassured due to the Russian support? Boris Dolgov, senior fellow at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies commented Pravda.Ru on the issue.

"Syria confirms its policy aimed at resistance to external forces, which lead an aggressive terror attack in the country. Bashar al-Assad really set the record straight, as there have been many insinuations in the Western media lately on alleged Russian surender of Assad to the US. And Assad realizes that Russia supports him," Boris Dolgov claimed.

The expert reminded that 85% of the Syrian citizens are currently in the territory controlled by the Syrian army, as only army can secure living conditions, while in the territory occupied by the fighters there are no electricity, water supply, food, but mass executions of those fighting against jihadists.

Dolgov said that the Syrian army carried out two significant military operations in July on the border with Lebanon, where it liquidated over 500 fighters, and on the border with Iraq, where it also annihilated hundreds of fighters. The expert noted that the Syrian army is quite capable to fight and win terrorists even in remote regions. Thus, Bashar al-Assad is on firm ground.
