Moscow hails Iraq's transfer of archives seized during occupation of Kuwait

Moscow hails the start of Iraq's transfer to Kuwait of the archive documents seized during the occupation of Kuwait in 1990.

The Russian Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti Monday that an important step has been made to fulfil the UN SC resolutions adopted in connection with the Iraqi-Kuwaiti conflict.

According to Moscow, this step testifies to the fact that the situation around Iraq can be settled by political and diplomatic methods.

This step is a practical embodiment of the initiatives announced at the all-Arab summit held in Beirut in March and designed to settle the delicate issues in relations between Iraq and its southern neighbours, Moscow believes.

Russia hopes that other problems impeding the full-scale development of the relations between Baghdad and Al-Kuwait will be settled along the same constructive pattern, the Russian foreign policy department stressed.
