Prince Charles' wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, was in hospital Monday to undergo a hysterectomy, officials said Monday.
Camilla, 59, arrived for the procedure at the King Edward VII hospital on Sunday, having recently returned to Britain following a 10-day tour of the Mideast with husband Charles.
"She's undergoing a routine operation on the advice of her doctor," said a spokeswoman for Prince Charles' Clarence House.
A hysterectomy is a surgical procedure to remove all or part of the uterus. The operation can be done for various reasons, including cancer, abnormal growths, menstrual problems or complications following birth, reports AP.
The spokeswoman said the operation was not the result of cancer, but did not provide any further details.
Camilla is expected to require six weeks of recuperation.
