Zarema Kasaeva of Russia set a world record in the clean and jerk Sunday in the women's 69-kilogram category at the World Weightlifting Championships.
The 18-year-old Russian hoisted 157 kilograms in her final attempt after Liu Haixia of China lifted 154 in her third attempt to eclipse the previous record of 153 set by Liu Chunhong at the 2004 Athens Olympics.
Liu Haixia's record lasted for only a minute at the Sheikh Jassim Stadium's multi-purpose hall.
Kasaeva won the gold with a total of 275 after lifting 118 in the snatch. The 275 total equaled the overall world record set by Liu Chunhong last year at the Olympics.
Liu Haixia took the overall silver with a total of 274 after snatching 120.
Olga Kiseleva of Russia took bronze with a total of 250 from a 110 snatch and a 140 clean and jerk, AP reported. V.A.
