Adu and Gomez fined for on-field incidents

Major League Soccer fined D.C. United midfielder Freddy Adu $500 (Ђ425) on Tuesday for a reckless foul against Chicago's Logan Pause in a playoff game last month.

Adu slid with his boots high when he tackled Pause in the 80th minute of United's 4-0 loss on Oct. 30.

United midfielder Christian Gomez also was fined an additional $750 (Ђ640) by the league for spitting at Fire defender C.J. Brown in the same game.

The fine was in addition to the one-game suspension and $250 (Ђ215) fine that Gomez automatically received when he was given the red card for spitting at Brown in the 55th minute. Gomez will serve the suspension in the first game of the 2006 season, AP reports.
