Uzbek authorities have given the UN permission to use the Termez river port and airport to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of Afghanistan, said Deputy Secretary General Kenzo Oshima. Oshima said at a press conference in Tashkent that on Thursday evening he was going to Termez, which is situated on the border with Afghanistan, to inspect the river port and the airport. The humanitarian aid will be delivered by barges to Afghanistan's northern regions, while the Termez airport will be used to deliver aid to the south of Afghanistan. The Deputy Secretary General did not specify the timing of the start of the operation.
