Russia's Maria Sharapova made it through the qualification round of the Australian Open, increasing Russian representation at this year's first Grand Slam tournament.
Maria Sharapova became the only Russian player who has succeeded in passing the qualification round to get into the Australian Open's main competition. In all, 17 tennis players are representing Russia at this year's tournament, including the four top men in Russian tennis today - Marat Safin, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Mikhail Yuzhny and Nikolai Davydenko.
