Europe-America 500 meeting to be held in Moscow Cathedral

Moscow's PR and Interregional Contacts Department has reported that on Friday November 22nd, His Holiness Alexis II, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, will host a meeting in the capital's St. Saviour Cathedral between organisers and participants in the historic international "Europe-America 500" project.

The project was dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America and was symbolised by the launch of the Resource-500 space ship to America from the Plesetsk space centre. After several days in space, its landing craft splashed down near Seattle in a history-making event. There were 19 containers on board the spacecraft with letters of goodwill addressed to Americans from Russian and European citizens.

Following decades of confrontation, this project became a symbol of unity between Europe and the USA, as people on both continents were brought together by this "space bridge." The countries are now linked by the most varied, more-down-to-earth projects.

Chairman of the Interstate Aviation Committee Tatyana Anodina, General Director of the Russian Aerospace Agency Yuri Koptev, representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry and Moscow city government will be among the guests at the meeting in the capital.
