Over half of Russians say 9/11 terror attacks did not influence US attitude to Russia

Over a half of Russians (53 percent) believe that the terrorist attacks ofSeptember 11, 2001 neither alienated nor drew the US closer to Russia,according to the data of the poll conducted by the Russian Public OpinionResearch Center on August 21-27, 2002 in 83 locations of 33 regions of thecountry among 1,600 respondents (error rate is 3.8 percent). Around a thirdof Russians (35 percent) think that the two countries became closer to eachother, while 5 percent said they became more alienated. According to 45percent of Russians, the current relations between Russia and the US arenormal, while 20 percent believe they are lukewarm, 16 percent said theywere good, 6 percent - tense, 6 percent - friendly. In August 2002 67percent of Russians had positive attitude to the US, while 22 percent ofRussians had negative attitude, while 11 percent of respondents wereundecided. .
