Security Council Secretary Breaks Arm and Leg in Road Crash

Vladimir Rushailo, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, who was involved in a traffic accident today, has broken an arm and a leg. The Russian Interior Ministry made this announcement earlier today.

The accident happened on the road between Yelizarovo and Petropavlosk-Kamchatka. According to the Interior Ministry, a Toyota jeep being driven by a drunk driver veered over on to the opposite lane and hit a minibus, whose passengers included Vladimir Rushailo and Governor of the Kamchatka Region Mikhail Mashkovtsev. Six people were killed, including the driver of the jeep and three bodyguards, and nine were hospitalized with injuries of varying degrees of seriousness.

The investigation into the crash is being headed by Konstantin Chaika, the deputy prosecutor-general for the Far-East Federal District. According to Rosbalt's correpondent, Chaika announced that criminal proceedings have been launched in connection with the accident.
