Rambler TeleNetwork TV-Internet Hybrid to Start Broadcasting in Russia, Baltic States in January 2003

The new Rambler TeleNetwork TV station - a hybrid of television broadcasting and the latest internet technology - will start broadcasting in Russia, the Baltic States and the CIS in January 2003. Rambler TeleNetwork's informative-entertaining broadcasting format is unique in Russia. Usually, similar channels in the West (Discovery, History Channel etc.) are subscription channels. Rambler is creating a channel that will be of the same quality as its Western equivalents, but free.

Screenings of films will be preceded by additional information about the filming and the history of the genre. There will be no soap operas or bloody action films, with more adventure series and popular science programmes instead. The new channel will not be educational in the way that many Soviet programmes were, but informative. The format also does not include politics. News broadcasts will be short, condensed and without commentaries. The channel plans to broadcast 24 hours a day in all the time zones in Russia and the CIS.
