Houston Ballet to perform in Russia

The Houston Ballet, one of the best-known acts in the USA ("one of the best ballet troupes in the United States," as the New York Times put it), is to make its first appearance on stage of the State Academic Bolshoi Theater.

What makes the Houston Ballet unlike any other ballet troupe in the world is that apart from traditional classical ballets, its repertoire includes such large-scale epic performances as "Cleopatra," "Dracula" /with choreography by Stevenson/, "Peter Pan" and many more. Founded in 1955, the Houston Ballet is headed by Ben Stevenson, a well-known American choreographer and a Knight of the British Empire.

In Moscow, the ballet will present its best performances - "Five Poems" with music by Wagner and choreography by Stevenson, "Indigo" with music by Vivaldi and choreography by Stanton Welsh, and fragments from "Cleopatra" and "Manon" featuring the Russian ballet star Nina Ananiashvili.

The performances are scheduled for November 14 and 15.
