Kremlin Cup results had great influence on women's tennis rating list

Considerable changes have happened in the rating list of the world's top ten women tennis players, largely due to the women players' performance in the Kremlin Cup tournament held in Moscow last week.

The top three standings in the rating list of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) have remained unchanged. Sisters Williams, Serena and Venus, from the USA are on top one-two with 6099 and 4,844 points respectively, followed by their compatriot Jennifer Capriati (3,759 points).

Amelie Mauresmo from France who reached the semi-finals stage in Moscow ascended from seventh place to fourth with 3,062 points. Justine Henin from Belgium moved from sixth place to fifth (2,994), and one more U.S. players, Monica Seles, went down by two places and is now figuring sixth in the rating list with 2,960 points.

The further standings among the top ten are as follows: 7. Lindsay Davenport (USA, 2,901 points), 8. Jelena Dokic (Yugoslavia, 2,000), 9. Kim Clijsters (Belgium, 2,618), and 10. Martina Hingis (Switzerland, 2,448).

As for the winner of the Kremlin Cup tournament, Magdalena Maleeva from Bulgaria, she went up 8 places at once and is now holding 15th place with 1,615 points.

As many as ten representatives of Russia are figuring among the top 100 best women tennis players. The best of them is Anastasia Myskina who, like a week ago, is ranking 12th with 1,845 points.

The list of the 100 best women players includes also 21. Tatyana Panova (1,259 points), 22. Yelena Dementyeva (1,254), 27. Yelena Bovina (1,098), 33. Anna Kournikova (1,015), 38. Yelena Likhovtseva (866.75), 46. Svetlana Kuznetsova (818), 52. Vera Zvonareva (702.75), 70. Dinara Safina (520.25), and 81. Alina Zhidkova (462.75).
