Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Presented New Reading of Ruslan And Lyudmila Opera

On Wednesday Bolshoi Theatre will present an altogether new reading of Ruslan and Lyudmila opera by prominent Russian composer Mikhail Glinka on its main stage. The spectators will see an absolutely unordinary new production of the masterpiece of Russian musical classic which stands out for original theatrical and scenographic decisions.

Young stars of this country's main music theatre, as well as singers from Russia and Ukraine were invited to Bolshoi Theatre for the new production. The last discoveries by the Russian music experts which change the generally-accepted ideas of the folk fairy-tale opera based on a poem by great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin are used in the new production.

Precisely Bolshoi Theatre organised the large-scale source studies so that the production of the opera would maximally accord with the author's design. Indeed, as a result of the successful studies, the idea of Glinka's creative heritage broadened and, as music director and chief conductor of Bolshoi Theatre Alexander Vedernikov said, "the main thing that moved us in this work and that was our prime aim is the great desire to bring Glinka's music with its spirit, its style and its own sounding to our spectators".

On that same day the international scientific symposium The Opera Ruslan and Lyudmila of M.I. Glinka: Study, Edition and Performance will open in the Chorus Hall of Bolshoi Theatre. The symposium will be held on April 23-24.
