KamAZ hopes to resume truck deliveries to Iraq soon

KamAZ expects to resume deliveries of its trucks to Iraq under current contracts sometime after January 1, 2004. As Rosbalt learned Thursday from the press service of the automaker, the declaration was made by Sergei Kogogin, KamAZ's general director, at the Moscow International Auto Show.

Kogogin said his firm was ready to fulfill its contracts, three-quarters of which have UN approval, but that a final decision on the firm's return to Iraq depends on talks between the presidents of the US and Russia.

The auto firm chief also said KamAZ had planned to export 4,500 trucks this year, not including shipments to Iraq, and that planned monthly goals were being met. The firm is continuing to work on a truck-assembly operation in Egypt. 'Right now, the ball is in their court,' Kogogin said. 'We are trying to work out a few specific points. We've found partners who are ready to invest in the project. I think it will happen.'
