44% of Russians do not trust Prosecutor's Office

44% of Russians do not trust the General Prosecutor's Office. As a Rosbalt correspondent reports, this was the result of a nationwide survey carried out on August 2 by the Public Opinion fund. More than half the respondents (56%) believe the country's supreme judicial authority is not just governed by the law but by other factors as well. For 26% of Russians these 'other factors' include bribes and personal gain. In addition, 5% believe that government leaders, the president and other people in power have an influence over the activity and decisions of the Prosecutor's Office. 3% are convinced that the Prosecutor's Office pays no attention to the law. In their opinion it makes its decisions quite arbitrarily.

Only 1% of Russians feel that these 'other factors' are justifiable as they provide 'common sense' and 'morality.'

1500 people took part in the survey.
