Foreign Trade Turnover of North-West Federal District Rose by 25% in First Two Months of 2003

The foreign trade turnover of the North-West Federal District for the first two months of 2003 came to over USD 3.259 billion. Moreover, according to the press department of the regional customs office, this marks an increase of 25% year-on-year.

Russian exports worth almost USD 2 billion accounted for most of the turnover. The greater part of these goods were exported to far away countries. Compared to 2002 the volume of export increased by 35% while the volume of import only rose by 15%. The balance of trade increased in this way almost threefold year-on-year.

According to the regional customs department, there are currently 17,500 enterprises registered in the North-West Federal District which are involved in foreign trade activity.
