Rosaviakosmos Chief: Over 60 American Satellites Used for War in Iraq

More than 60 American satellites are now used for the war in Iraq, said head of the Russian space agency Rosaviakosmos Yuri Koptev.

Their navigation systems are used to direct high precision weapons, he explained.

Yet, Koptev doubts that "the work of the American segment of the International Space Station can significantly increase the efficiency of these systems," he said.

At the same time, the American party can use the space station for military purposes, Koptev pointed out. "The Americans insisted on the clause that would make it possible to use the station for military purposes. By the way, Russia also has the right to use its segment of the station for the same purposes," he announced.

On Thursday, the Rosaviakosmos chief took part in the government session that considered the process of fulfilling Russia's international obligations in the space sphere.
