The arrival of salmon to the Western coast of the Kamchatka peninsula in the sea of Okhotsk much exceeds scientific prognostication. Salmon comes in large quantities and spawning grounds are in danger because of congestion, said the press center of the administration of the Kamchatka region.
Deputy governor Alexander Chistyakov, in charge of the fisheries department, said that the catch of red and calico salmon continued during only one day. It began on the Western coast last Saturday and fishermen met actually the entire allowed norm of catch.
The Natural Resources Ministry gives no green light to expanding catch norms and proposes holding a large-scale ecological examination. But it may take much more time then the salmon spawning time.
On Monday a message calling for operative increasing the salmon catch norms has been sent to Russian Agricultural Minister Alexei Gordeyev, who oversees the fisheries sector, said the press center of the Kamchatka region's administration.
