Gas for some companies is like oxygen for people that’s why a new firm was set up in Shanghai recently to provide industrial gases for companies at the Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park. The company, Shanghai Chemical Industrial Park Industrial Gas Corp. Ltd, was jointly funded by two world-leading industrial gas providers, US-based Praxair Inc. and France-based Air Liquide. The new company will provide industrial gases for the park from 2003 when the first phase of construction is completed, according to a plan. The second phase of construction is expected to be completed in 2005. By then, it will be a comprehensive industrial gas provider involved in producing, storing and selling all kinds of industrial gases needed at the park. Covering an area of 23.4 square kilometers, the park is now the largest in the country with a focus on petroleum chemical industries. Many world-famous chemical companies, such as Bayer, BASF and Huntsman, have set up factories in the park.
